For the first time in the history of the state of Colorado, comprehensive funds are available to address the high rate of tobacco use in Colorado’s GLBTQ community by providing prevention activities for GLBT youth, cessation education and activities for adults, and social marketing materials to change community norms that support tobacco use.

Speaking Out
Founded in 2000, SpeakingOUT is an all-volunteer, Boulder based lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) educational speakers bureau whose aim is to cultivate awareness and understanding of LGBTQ lives and experiences. SpeakingOUT’s mission is to use public speaking as a means of creating positive cultural change. SpeakingOUT believes honest and open dialogue can help in creating a world free of homo-bi-trans-phobia.

Boulder OUT Leadership Development (BOLD)
Boulder OUT Leadership Development (BOLD), formerly, Project Youth Empowerment, is a Boulder Pride program for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, youth (LGBTQ) youth between the ages of 13 and 24. The program offers opportunities in leadership development and community service, as well as social activities. The program is based on the resiliency model which focuses on personal strength building. There are three basic strategies that form the base of this program. These are: (1) fostering caring relationships that are developed through listening and trust; (2) creating high expectations that emphasize strength and assets; (3) providing opportunities for skills development and engagement in the process. The overall goal of the program is to increase self esteem, increase a sense of belonging to the community, and increase resiliency thereby decreasing harmful, at risk behaviors.

Workplace Equality Project
The mission of the Workplace Equality Project is to provide education for managers, human resources professionals, and employees at Boulder City and County organizations on (1) sexual orientation and gender identity prejudice (2) the Boulder Human Rights Ordinance and (3) recent Colorado Employment Non Discrimination (ENDA) legislation. These trainings will focus on creating work environments inclusive for GLBTQ employees and clients. The Workplace Equality Project is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2008.
