SB 08-200 – "Expansion of Discrimination Prohibitions" bill
This bill will expand language prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, including transgender status, in housing practices, public accommodation, eligibility for jury service, availability of family planning services, as well as many other areas.
Senate Bill 125 - "Harmful to Minors" bill
The "Harmful to Minors" bill, sponsored by Sen. Ted Harvey (R. Dist 30) and Rep. Amy Stephens (R. Dist 20), concerns regulating sexually explicit representations that are harmful to minors, making it a Class 2 misdemeanor to distribute sexually explicit material or exhibit a sexually explicit performance to minors. The language of this bill is written so broadly that it could include much HIV/AIDS/STD and other healthy living instruction for GLBTQ youth in Colorado.
TEXT OF E-MAIL TO SENATORS:
RE: Vote NO on SB 125 the "Harmful to Minors" bill
I am with Equal Rights Colorado a non-profit working to promote equal rights for Colorado's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) people and their families through non-partisan state legislative advocacy. I am contacting you to express my concern over SB 125. As you may know, this bill just passed the Senate Judiciary Committee and will soon be moving on to the Senate floor. The language of this bill is written so broadly that it could include much HIV/AIDS/STD and other healthy living instruction vital to the protection of GLBT youth in Colorado. I believe it is important that our youth can still become educated in ways to prevent the spread of these diseases and that is why I am asking you to vote no on SB 125 the "Harmful to Minors" bill.
